MUSIC: Albums I’m Anticipating This Year

Every year, the thought of what albums are to come, makes me really excited. I remember after Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool came out, I was anxiously awaiting LUPEnd. Or after Jay-Z’s hiatus, I was excited to hear American Gangster. Music really takes me to a place where my mind can run free and the words, beats, bars, and cadences are speaking directly to me.

Despite being barely into the second quarter, there are albums that I am awaiting. Let’s get to the list: Musiq Soulchild. His sixth studio album entitled, MusiqInTheMagiq is “finished” and according tot he artist, “We just need to take the actual songs and mix those and put the project together.” [source] Right now, the record has a tentative release date of May 3rd.

Lil Wayne. The next up in his ‘Carter’ series is, ‘Carter IV’ which Wayne has stated it’s due out May 16th [source]. Although I’m not sure what to expect, since Wayne is always just doing what he pleases, but I’m sure it wont disappoint. He is also another artist (like Beyoncè) who makes their own genre of music, only difference is, there are less people who hate Lil Wayne; I think.

Owl City. For the life of me, I couldn’t stop signing Fireflies. My obsession got to a point where I downloaded every Owl City album and just fell in love. Their new album, ‘All Things Bright & Beautiful’ just sounds like pure love in my ears (the title I mean), and I just can’t let this one slip under the radar. If you’re not familiar with them, ask somebody; they’re pretty nice. Despite the “emo” kinda style, I still plan to get this one and listen to it until I hate it. This album is looking at a May 17th release date.

Arctic Monkeys. If you’ve followed my site for almost 4 years now, you would know that my mild obsession with the Arctic Monkeys comes from my old college roommate, Tanisha (aka Doodle). She turned me on to British Rock and I’ve been in love ever since. Their newest, Suck It and See is due June 6th. Excited!

Beyoncè. Yea. Yea. Yea. Right now the ‘untitled’ album has some late June release date. I won’t go on and on about her, just read THIS.

Drake. After his mixtape success with So Far Gone and his mainstream success with, Thank Me Later. His latest project, Take Care is looking at a September 13th. Drake tells MTV, “For Take Care I’m trying to find a way to make my raps shorter but catchier. I’m trying to condense my thoughts down to 16 bars. And it’s coming out more potent.” [source] Well alright then Aubrey. Let’s go for the gold!

-*Notable Mentions*-

Kanye West & Jay-Z. Their collaborative album, Watch the Throne which may or may not have originally been Lil Wayne and Drake’s idea, oh well…

Kid Cudi. Don’t know why I love this kid, maybe because he just doesn’t care, don’t know. But I’ll be waiting for his album, Wizard and you should be too.

Big Boi. I don’t think my heart can take anything after Sir Lucious Left Foot, but I’ll be darned if he is not trying to put me into cardiac arrest. Daddy Fat Sax is coming this year, hopefully, and I’ll be waiting.

What albums are you waiting for? Did I leave anyone off the list? What are your thoughts?
