The friend in my head, Marfmellow, touched on topic close to my heart and I just had to give my two cents.
I’ve always wondered what it meant to ‘talk white’, I’ve been hearing that all my life and I still have yet to find a definition. When I moved to Prince George’s County Maryland from Fairfax County Virginia, my new classmates would say things like, you talk white, or you’re a white girl in a black girl’s body. I still don’t get those comments and no one has yet to give me a straight answer as to what that means.
I have always had an affinity for the English language and I have always taken pride in being able to formulate a proper sentence, with the correct grammar, and in the right tense. Does that mean I’m ‘acting white’? Or because I choose not to buy urban clothes from urban stores such as Baby Phat or House of Dereon? That means that I’m ‘acting white’. Oh ok.
Check out Marfmellow’s video about ‘acting white’. If you can relate, let me know. Tell me what you think.
