Every year, the thought of what albums are to come, makes me really excited. I remember after Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool came out, I was anxiously awaiting LUPEnd. Or after Jay-Z’s hiatus, I was excited to hear American Gangster. Music really takes me to a place where my mind can run free and the words, beats, bars, and cadences are speaking directly to me.

The friend in my head, Marfmellow, touched on topic close to my heart and I just had to give my two cents.
I’ve always wondered what it meant to ‘talk white’, I’ve been hearing that all my life and I still have yet to find a definition. When I moved to Prince George’s County Maryland from Fairfax County Virginia, my new classmates would say things like, you talk white, or you’re a white girl in a black girl’s body. I still don’t get those comments and no one has yet to give me a straight answer as to what that means.
I have always had an affinity for the English language and I have always taken pride in being able to formulate a proper sentence, with the correct grammar, and in the right tense. Does that mean I’m ‘acting white’? Or because I choose not to buy urban clothes from urban stores such as Baby Phat or House of Dereon? That means that I’m ‘acting white’. Oh ok.

Despite the haters who believe that Beyoncè needs to grab a seat and have it, her legacy has only just begun. She is a force to be reckoned with and if you deny that, you’re lying to yourself and those listening. Granted, she is not the best actress by far, but her sheer name or presence on the white screen is what makes her royalty in the eyes of us consumers. Continue reading →
