10 Albums, 10+ Years Later, Still in Rotation
1. Lauryn Hill – The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998), Sony [Amazon] – There is no one in the world that can refute this classic album. It was the very first CD I ever had and I literally didn’t listen to it for years. In 1998, I didn’t appreciate the artistry that went into this masterpiece. Now, in 2010, you can’t help but want that old thing back © Jay Z. Anyone who is a lover of Hip Hop would admit that Lauryn Hill was everything that you would want music to be. She was the original triple threat. She can sing. She can rap. She can play instruments. Before the Beyonce’s. Before the Rihanna’s. Before the Lady GaGa’s. Before the rise of this crazy pop nonsense – there was real Hip Hop that didn’t begin with Lauryn Hill, but it might have ended with her. My only wish is that she would give us some more material and less crazy.
Album Classics:: Ex-Factor, Nothing Even Matters, I Used to Love Him, and Doo Wop (That Thing).
2. Musiq Soulchild – Aijuswanaseing (2000), Def Soul Classics [Amazon] - This is the only Musiq album that I can listen to all the way through. No skipping. There was something so raw about his first album. It was just raw soul and emotion. I’m not sure what happened down the line, but this album is defiantly my favorite one of his and it will forever remain in rotation to me.
Album Classics:: Just Friends, 143, Love, Settle for My Love, and L is Gone
